| 4 | Notice of a Motion under Standing Order 29 was submitted after the deadline with a request for consideration at this meeting. In terms of Standing Order 36.3, Council is asked to consider whether to suspend the relevant Standing Orders. Motion - Syngenta Falkirk Council agrees to express its support for the much-valued nearly 400 workers at Syngenta in Grangemouth who will be reeling from news that the chemical firm is planning to cease operations next year. This closure would be yet another blow for manufacturing at the Grangemouth complex. Council notes that the company say that a final decision has yet to be taken, and given this situation it demands an immediate and significant response from the UK and Scottish Governments to do whatever is in their power to protect production moving forward. Council agrees that the strategic Grangemouth Future Industries Board (GFIB) is not the vehicle to achieve this rapid change, and calls on the UK and Scottish governments to create a Grangemouth Taskforce that meets at least monthly with Scottish Enterprise and Falkirk Council to explore every opportunity to secure the future Syngenta and short-to-medium term manufacturing in Grangemouth. Council further agrees that the Chief Executive should write to both governments setting out the Council's position. In light of the urgency of this situation the mover requests that the motion is heard urgently at the forthcoming special meeting of Council. Proposed by Councillor Garner |
